Unit Study: Flowers & Feelings
Flowers & Feelings is an experiential unit study which uses hands-on activities to not only learn important scientific concepts, but also to connect and integrate those science concepts to social emotional learning. Flowers & Feelings provides an entry point for kids to engage in emotional self-awareness and development of emotional regulation strategies. The activities and resources in this guide will help kids name and describe their own unique experience of various emotional states. It will empower them to identify strategies for emotional regulation, and will deepen their connection with themselves and those around them. The Flowers & Feelings resource guide also provides an entry point for discussing our interconnectedness with each other and with the natural world through exploration of the ways we are similar to all living things. This resource guide includes activity suggestions and resources that provide integrated learning opportunities in science, literacy, the arts, and social emotional learning.
CORE CONCEPTS:
Science: Properties of Water, Plant Absorption of Nutrients
Social Emotional Learning: Emotional Self-Awareness, Mindfulness, Emotional Regulation Skills
***Flowers & Feelings concepts are easily adaptable across a wide range of ages from PreK -High School, and can be delivered in an individual or group setting. However, activities and resources as written are most appropriate for Elementary ages.
